Joel Matip Eyes Lengthy Recovery After Knee Surgery
Some good news for Liverpool fans: Joel Matip’s knee surgery was a success and looks to be on the mend.
On 3 December, the 32-year-old centre-back came off in the second half of the Reds’ English Premier League (EPL) game against Fulham. A medical check-up afterwards indicated an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture and he was booked off for surgery.
The English club released a statement on Wednesday, 13 December, via their official website, confirming that he had undergone a “successful operation”, and would complete his road to recovery – no time period was given – at the AXA Training Centre in Liverpool, England.
Liverpool’s list of injured players continues to pile up, with the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Andrew Robertson, Alexis Mac Allister, Diogo Jota and Stefan Bajcetic currently sitting out games, leaving coach Jurgen Klopp with fewer options for the 2023/24 season.
However, Klopp’s men are managing fine as they top the EPL table with 37 points, while Arsenal is a single point behind them.
